(1)   Secretary-1 hosts dinner in honour of national
      race leaders and those who have served the cause
      of peace


YANGON, 17 Oct - Chairman of Working Committee for
Implementation of Development of Border Areas and
National Races Secretary-1 of the State Peace and
Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt hosted
dinner in honour of leaders of national races who
had restored peace with the Government and those
who have served the cause of peace, currently
here, at Tatmadaw Guest House on Inya Road at 6 pm
today.


Also present on the occasion were Secretary-3 of
the State Peace and Development Council,
ministers, deputy ministers, the Deputy Chief of
the Office of Strategic Studies and Deputy
Director of Directorate of Defence Services
Intelligence and officials, leaders of national
races who had restored peace with the Government
and those who have served the cause of peace.

(2)   Multimedia classrooms opened in Basic Education
      schools in Pyay

YANGON, 17 Oct - Secretary-1 of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt,
accompanied by ministers.  the Yangon-Mayor,deputy
ministers, the Chief of Staff (Navy), the Chief of
Staff (Air), officials of the State Peace and
Development Council Office, heads of departments
and officials, left here by Tatmadaw flight this
morning.


The Secretary-l and party arrived in Pyay, Bago
Division, at 7.45 am.


The Secretary-l and party paid respects to
Presiding Sayadaw of Yadana Manaung Tawya
Kyaungtaik in Pyay Kaba Shweyinaye Sayadaw
Abhidhaja Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Bhaddanta
Vijjabala and presented offertories to the
Sayadaw.


The Secretary-l then attended ceremonies for
enshrinement of the upper reliquary and to put up
the pivot of Maha Shwemyintmo Sulamani Datpaungzu
Pagoda.


Multimedia classrooms were opened at No 5 and No 1
Basic Education High Schools in Pyay, with an
address by Chairman of Myanmar Education Committee
Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development
Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.




A ceremony to open the multimedia classroom was
held at No 5 BEHS in Pyay at 9.45 am.

The Secretary-l then unveiled the signboard of the
multimedia classroom.



The Secretary-l and party inspected the computer
training and computer aided instruction room,
audio system media and printed media room,
domestic science room, painting room, music and
art rooms.



A similar ceremony was held at No 1 BEHS in Pyay.

The Secretary-l then unveiled the signboard of the
multimedia classroom.

The Secretary-1 and party inspected the computer
training and E-mail room, computer aided
instruction room, audio visual media room, visual
presented media room, printed media room, language
lab, music and art rooms, domestic science and
handicraft room, photo and wall magazine and
painting room.

A ceremony to open multimedia classrooms of No l,
2, 3 and 5 BEHS and No 3 Basic Education Middle
School was held at No 1 BEHS in Pyay.

Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary-1 said.

The Secretary- 1 then signed in the visitors'
book.

The Secretary-l and party together with members of
school boards of trustees, members of PTA and
school heads posed for photos.



The Secretary-1 attended a ceremony to donate
provisions to Pyay Taungdan Tawya Kyaungs.

The Secretary-l supplicated religious matters and
presented offertories to the members of the
Sangha.

The Secretary- and party went to Thudhamma Zayat
at the western gateway of ancient historic
Shwebontha Muni Hsutaungpyi Pagoda.

The Secretary-l and party paid respects to
Shwebontha Muni Hsutaungpyi Pagoda.

The Secretary-l and party inspected General
Administration Department Office of Bago Division
(West).

The Secretary-l and party inspected surgical ward
and delivery ward of General Hospital in Pyay.



They arrived back here in the evening.

(3)   Secretary-1 attends enshrinement of Maha
      Shwemyintmo Sulamani Datpaungzu Pagoda in Pyay




YANGON, 17 Oct- Ceremonies for enshrinement of
upper reliquary and to put up the pivot of Maha
Shwemyintmo Sulamani Datpaungzu Pagoda built by
Presiding Kaba Shweyin Aye Sayadaw Abhidhaja Agga
Maha Saddhamma Jotika Bhaddanta Vijjabala of
Yadana Manaung Tawyakyaungtaik in Pyay, Bago
Division, were held on Thiri Zeya Yanpyay Manpyay
Aungmyay at the pagoda this morning, attended by
Secretary-1 of the State Peace and Development
Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt.

First, Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party
received the Five Precepts from Agga Maha
Saddhamma Jotika Bhaddanta Vijjabala.

Well-wishers made donation for Maha Shwemyintmo
Sulamani Datpaungzu Pagoda.

Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt accepted the
donations and presented certificates of honour.

Secretary-l Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party presented
offertories to the members of the Sangha.

Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt presented THE
reliquary to Bhaddanta Vijjabala of Yadana Manaung
Tawyakyaungtaik for Maha Shwemyintmo Sulamani
Dat-paungzu Pagoda.

At the auspicious time, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin
Nyunt and party enshrined the silver Bodhi tree,
four Buddha Images and other objects at the pagoda
and sprinkled scented water on the reliquary.

Then, Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and
dignitaries conveyed the pivot atop the pagoda
with the decorated carriage and fixed the central
pivot atop the pagoda.

After the successful completion of the ceremony,
the Secretary-1 and party performed rituals of
golden and silver showers.

(4)   Secretary-l attends 18th rice donation ceremony of
      Pyay Taungdan Tawyakyaungs Rice Donating
      Association


YANGON, 17 Oct - The 18th ceremony to donate rice
to Pyay Taungdan Tawyakyaungs, sponsored by Pyay
Taungdan Tawyakyaungs Rice Donating Association,
was held at Thirikhitta Thirindhara Sasana
Beikman, Pyay, Bago Division, this afternoon.

Secretary-l of the State Peace and Development
Council Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt attended the ceremony,
supplicated on religious affairs and donated alms
to Sayadaws.

In his supplication, the Secretary-l said.

The Secretary-1 and party donated alms and rice to
the Sayadaws and members of the Sangha.

The Secretary-1 and party, well-wishers and the
congregation shared merits gained for the good
deeds.

Nuns of Nibbinda dispensed metta.

After the ceremony, the Secretary-l and party
performed the ritual of silver and, golden
showers.

(5)   Secretary-2 inspects Aungzeya Bridge Project


YANGON, 17 Oct - Secretary-2 of the State Peace
and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo, inspected
Aungzeya Bridge Project this afternoon.

The Secretary-2, accompanied by officials arrived
at the project on the bank of Insein Township at
1.30 pm today.

The Secretary-2 inspected progress of work in
building the approach structure to Aungzeya Bridge
on the bank of Insein Township.

Officials reported on works, and the Secretary-2
gave necessary instructions.

The Secretary-2 gave instructions on timely
completion of construction of the bridge,
systematic use of the budget, worksite safety,
proper use of equipment and machinery, systematic
keeping of records on the project, staff welfare
and health care services.

Then, the Secretary-2 inspected the project and
left there in the afternoon.

(6)   Corner stone laid for construction of
      Thathanapitzawta Bawzanathukha Kyaung of
      Shwemyaingthiri Nunnery-in Mayangon



YANGON, 17 Oct - The corner-stone laying ceremony
for construction of Thathanapitzawta Bawzanathukha
Kyaung of Shwemyaingthiri Nunnery in Ward 5,
Mayangon Township, took place at the nunnery, this
morning, attended by Secretary-2 of the State
Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

First, the Secretary-2 laid a gems casket at the
centre of the foundation.

The Secretary-2 placed the stone inscription,
followed by sprinkling of scented water on the
foundation and the stone inscription.

(7)   Provisions donated to Shwemyaingthiri Nunnery,
      Sarthintaiks in Mayangon Township


YANGON, 17 Oct - Families of Tatmadaw (Army, Navy
and Air) and well-wishers donated provisions to
Shwemyaingthiri Nunnery in Mayangon Township,
Yangon West District, at the nunnery this morning,
attended by Secretary-2 of the State Peace and
Development Council Chief of Bureau of Special
Operations Chief of Staff (Army) Lt-Gen Tin Oo.

The ceremony to donate provisions was held in
conjunction with the ceremony to set up a trust
fund.

Then, Secretary-2 Lt-Gen Tin Oo, Commander and
Tatmadaw officers presented offertories to the
Sayadaws.

Then, well-wishers also donated over K 2.22
million to officials for the construction of
Thathana Pyitzawta Bawzanathukha..  Kyaungsaung of
the nunnery.

Similarly, provisions were donated to KanU
Zaytawun, Yadana Beikhman, Kaytumati and NanU
Sarthintaiks in Mayangon Township, Yangon West
District, at KanU Zaytawun Sarthintaik in Ward S,
Mayangon Township, at 11.45 am.

(8)   National Theatre (Mandalay) opened


YANGON, 17 Oct - The National Theatre (Mandalay)
of Fine Arts Department under the Ministry of
Culture was opened in the compound of the State
School of Drama and Fine Arts in Aungmyaythazan
Township, Mandalay, yesterday morning.

Member of the State Peace and Development Council
Chairman of Mandalay Division Peace and
Development Council Commander of Central Command
Maj-Gen Ye Myint and Minister for Culture U Win
Sein formally opened the National Theatre.

Commander Maj-Gen Ye Myint and Minister U Win Sein
formally opened the theatre at the auspicious
time.

Next, Minister U Win Sein said.

After the ceremony, the commander, the ministers,
the deputy ministers and guests toured the
National Theatre.

The National Theatre built at a cost of K 552.828
million, can hold a total of 1,235 persons.

(9)   Myanmar delegation arrives back from Geneva


YANGON, 17 Oct - A Myanmar delegation led by
Minister for Communications, Posts and Telegraphs
Brig-Gen Win Tin arrived back here from Geneva by
air this morning after visiting Telecom 99
communication equipment exhibition from 14 to 16
October 1999 held in Geneva, Switzerland, at the
invitation of International Telegraphs Federation.

The Myanmar delegation members were at Yangon
International Airport by Minister for Sports,
Minister for Foreign Affairs, departmental heads
of Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications, and
Directorate of Posts and Communications and their
families.

(10)  25 members resign from Nattalin Township NLD


YANGON, 17 Oct - Twenty-five members resigned from
National League for Democracy of Nattalin
Township, Bago Division.

Twenty-five members of Nattalin Township NLD, Bago
Division, of their own volition, resigned by
sending letters of resignation to Nattalin
Township Multiparty Democracy General Election
Commission and the party concerned on 4 October
1999 as they no longer wished to participate in
party politics of NLD.
