0913-01 Myanmar airlines To Venture with Trans Asian Air Soon?
**Managing Director of Australian Airline Company Trans Asian Air met
Minister for Transport in Yangon on 9th September.

Apart from Myanmar Airways International (MAI), the flagship carrier
operating international flights, Yangon Airways and Air Mandalay are the
two other joint venture civil aviation companies operating domestic and
international flights to Kunming, China and Chiang Mai, Thailand.

As Myanmar incorporated into the regional forum ASEAN, Australian continent
become closer in term of economic cooperation, as for the geographical
location ASEAN countries have long tradition of trade link with Australia.

0913-02 Passage To Tibet Across Myanmar
**45 Malaysian tourists are on board a convoy of 14 motor vehicles on their
way to Tibet, with stopovers at Kengtung and Mongla, Myanmar's southern
Shan State towns near the Thai border.

The group stayed for 2 days and left for China. The tour was arranged by
the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism and Golden Land Travel Service Company.

10th ASEAN NTO (National Tourism Organization) meeting, held last month in
Yangon, stressed for greater regional co-operation in tourism sector. The
meeting also discuss the common ASEAN goal, the ASEAN LANE strategy, and to
create a common regional destination for the tourists.

0913-03 Myanmar To Attend Korean Travel Expo
**A high-level Myanmar Tourism Delegation led by Deputy Minister for Hotels
and Tourism left Yangon on 9th September to attend the International Travel
Exposition 1999 at the invitation of the organizing committee.

The International Travel Expo'99 will be held in the Korean town of Sokcho,
in Kangwon-do province from 11 September to 30th October.


0913-04 Ayeyawaddy Delta Promotes Fisheries Industry
**Myanma Livestock and Fisheries Department opened the Fisheries
Development Bank in Pyapon town, in the Ayeyawaddy delta region on 8th
September. The bank will provide mainly loans for the fisheries work of the
local population.

Pyapon town is situated on the Yangon-Pathein (provincial capital) high way
road, which is also accessible from sea route. The town is famous
nationwide as the best supplier of quality rice grains.

The Ayeyawaddy delta region has huge potential of fresh water and marine
fishing. Massive cultivation of paddy and oil crops, crocodile breeding and
salt making businesses are also popular in the region.

0913-05 Greater Myanmar-China Cooperation
**The President of China Mass Development Corporation and Complete
Machinery & Equipment Engineering Bureau of Yunnan provincial government of
the People's Republic of China met with the Minister for Industry 1 in
Yangon on 9th September.

Ministry of Industry 1 and one Chinese firm has recently entered into
agreement to build a new paper mill in central Myanmar.

Myanmar and southern most Chinese province of Yunan have profound trading
links. Myanmar has two borders passing to Yunnan. These two borders, Muse
and Bhamo allow for the influx of Chinese goods to Myanmar as well as to
flow Myanmar goods to other side. Project for the opening up of new border
trading route is expected soon.

0913-06 Myanmar Photographers Wins Awards
**4 Myanmar photographers won awards in Japan's annual photographic
exhibition.
The Asia & Pacific Countries Cultural Union (ACCU) sponsored the exhibition.

Contestants from 24 countries participated with over 6,000 photos. The
theme of the exhibition is "Protect the Elderly Citizens".
