Myanmar-Thailand Joint Commission for Bilateral
Cooperation meets
YANGON, 24 Aug-At the invitation of Minister for Foreign. Affairs U Win Aung
of the Union of Myanmar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of
Thailand Dr Surin Pitsuwan and Mrs Alisa Pitsuwan arrived here by air this
morning..
They were welcomed at Yangon International Airport Minister for Foreign
Affairs U Win Aung and Daw San Yone, Ambassador of the Union of Myanmar to
the Kingdom of Thailand U Hla Maung, officials of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, Ambassador of Thailand Mr Pensak Chalarak and wife and officials of
the Thai Embassy.
In the afternoon, the Thai Foreign Minister and party called on Minister for
Foreign Affairs U Win Aung at Zizawa Yeiktha of the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs. Also present at the call were Myanmar Ambassador U Hla Maung and
officials.
Then, Thai Foreign Minister Dr Surin Pitsuwan presented two sets of computers
for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Afterwards, the Fifth Meeting of the
Myanmar-Thailand Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation was held at
Wunzin Minyaza Hall of the ministry.
After the meeting, leaders of the two side delegations signed the agreed
minutes of the meeting. Minister U Win Aung and Minister Dr Surin Pitsuwan
also signed the Agreement between the Government of the Union of Myanmar and
Government of the Kingdom of Thailand on Exemption of Visas for Holders of
Diplomatic and Official Passports. Subsequently,
Minister for National Planning and Economic Development U Soe Tha and
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Surin Pitsuwan signed the Cultural Agreement
between Myanmar and Thailand.
The senior official delegation of Thailand met with the senior official
delegation of Myanmar led by Director -General U Nyunt Maung Shein of
Political Affairs Department and discussed promotion of bilateral cooperation
between the two countries.
